Our HisTOry
The Kohler Family opened its’ first retail store in Norridge on Irving Park Road in 1976 and moved to its current location on Lawrence Avenue two years later. Over the last 50 years, they created bonds with countless members in the community and across the Chicagoland area and beyond. It is not uncommon for us to sell engagement and wedding rings to multiple generations within the same family. The Kohler Family also has been dedicated to delivering quality hand crafted jewelry at low prices. Having both the retail and manufacturing centers in-house, we offer services not many other jewelers in Chicago can-over 95% of the retail jewelers in the Chicagoland do not do their own repairs. We custom design more engagement sets than any other jeweler in the area.
In 2023, our store was renovated and reopened as David Kohler Jewelers with the same staff and services our customers have come to love and trust. Our repair business has continued to flourish, and we are proud of the superior quality and service we have provided both with our retail and wholesale customers. We're honored to call ourselves a trusted, family-owned business for over 50 years and we can't wait to continue to service the community and match our standard of excellence for generationsto come.
We are here to handle all your jewelry needs. We can also buy your old gold items as atrade-in for new, beautiful pieces or for cash. Stop in to see us so we can introduce you to our “family”.
OUR TEAM

DAVID KOHLER
As the owner, David is the chief designer. He started in the downtown repair shop learning his craft from his father and uncle and assumed responsibility for the retail business over 45 years ago. He frequently gets the chance to work directly with customers alongside the sales staff.

JIM
Cousin to David, Jim has been part of the family business for over 50 years. Jim is a “master jeweler”, primarily managing the repair side of the business.

RENEE
Though not blood related, Renee has been with the Kohler family as the front end manager so long that she is more than family. Customers often refer to Renee as David’s “work wife”.

DORENE
If Renee isn't around, you'll find Dorene working in the store as well. After working for the Kohler family for nearly as long, Dorene has been a lifelong friend and our bookkeeper.
